Model Builder Search for LEGOLAND Discovery Centre - Manchester, UK

A new LEGOLAND Discovery Centre opens next year in the UK and they are looking for their Model Builder. Here's all the info on another great opportunity to get into a fun profession:

OPEN auditions are being held at The Lowry Hotel on 27 November 2009 for a position as model builder at the new LEGOLAND Discovery Centre.

Faced with millions of LEGO bricks when they arrive, auditionees will need to show how skilled they are at building LEGO models by creating an animal model in just fifteen minutes. The successful builders will then pass to the second stage of the auditions when they will need to create a famous face out of LEGO.

The audition aims to find a potential model builder who is skilled enough to be responsible for developing new features, exhibitions and building new models as well as working with the thousands of children expected to visit the attraction.

Neil Criitenden, general manager of LEGOLAND Discovery Centre said: “We are holding open auditions to find the most talented and enthusiastic model builders. It is an unusual job available and we hope to meet some LEGO fanatics from the North West. We are looking for someone with a great sense of fun and though that holding an open audition would be the ideal way to find the perfect candidate.”

The exciting new role will be based at the unique indoor attraction opening in March 2010.

Described as stepping into the biggest box of LEGO in the world, the attraction will host a unique MINILAND, which the successful model builder will need to create and maintain, as well as a number of other features including offer an exciting themed ride, a tour of a LEGO factory where children can help make their own LEGO brick. Plus there will be lots of opportunities to create their own models, race LEGO cars and areas for birthday parties.

The auditions will be held in meeting room seven and eight from 10am – 5pm at The Lowry Hotel in Manchester.

LEGO Wedding - <3 <3 <3

What else would two life long LEGO fans have at their wedding than a LEGO wedding cake? With some assistance in the beautiful and rare parts department by my mom, my husband, a former LEGOLAND MOdel Builder as well, and I created this special cake. Mom built the little placecard for our flower girl. The party was full of MOdel Builders, too! Best day ever! We might take the stuff to Brickffest this year so more people can enjoy!

MODEL BUILDER SEARCH 2009 LEGO Model Building JOB Legoland Development Style!

Jobs are FILLED!!! What a great experience Model Builder Search 2009 was. I think everything went quite smoothly thanks to the pros I had on board. I can't beleive I hired 9 NEW PEOPLE!!! I'm so excited for you guys to start at the end of this month. Sorry if the applicants thought it was a tough process, but just remember we were there before and after you each day and for the rest of our lives... haha! We need to know that we can live with you!

I just wrapped filming a TLC competition show called Ultimate Cake Off, where I was a guest judge, and these amazing Cake Designers had to go through a similar process as Model Builder Searchers. I realized one thing: As much as I love cake, I'd rather be building with LEGO than Cake any day.

Please comment for questions - description might be a little confusing, but in a nutshell, it is a production based job where you learn to build LEGO display models with perfect Craftsmanship. There is a Designer position a grade above the Builder position offered, but you cannot get that job without going through the motions of Model Builder. If you are an amazing designer, then you will get there rather quickly if your craftsmanship is stellar and you jive with the team :)

Miniland London

Miniland London was my favorite LEGOLAND Windsor Miniland city. I got to spend a little time in London when I was there and I think the Model Builders built a proper represantation in a beautiful way.




















Miniland Windsor is crafted by some top quality Model Builders. I have a zillion photos. I was thinking of putting them on my Flickr and linking to it? I never did the Brickshelf.com gallery thing, although I'm addicted to searching photos on their site. All I know is, it is not going to be very time effictive to continue my 'old school' approach of uploading 5 at a time, here, and for those who have never been here, you must experience this lovely LEGO city. I hope you feel the love ;)

We are building LEGOLAND Malaysia there right now and they will also be opening a large LEGO Modelbuilding Shop to create all the LEGO sculptures and scale model that will decorate that theme park. Far out, huh?!?!
